Resin driveways have some wonderful qualities that make them a superb surface, not least the way they handle the moisture of a wet climate like that of the Manchester area.
While the surface of a resin-bound stone driveway can absorb moisture and allow it to seep through safely, while also avoiding the freeze-thaw damage that can crack up harder surfaces, the weather is a consideration when getting a driveway installed.
The right conditions for this are a warm and dry day, which allows the resin to cure and bond properly. What you cannot do is have the work undertaken in the rain, as this will badly impede curing, and you would end up with a substandard surface as a consequence.
Cold weather also hampers the process, so this is not something you want to wait until autumn or winter to do.
That leaves dry and warm days as the best time for the work. The ideal time is in spring, because it is not too hot, since high temperatures can cause the resin to cure too fast.
However, that doesn’t mean you can’t do it now, even in a hot summer, as the long daylight hours mean that if it is done very early or late, when the temperatures are cooler, you can still get optimal conditions as long as it is dry.
Given how dry this spring and summer have been so far (especially in the drought-stricken north-west), heat may be a bigger consideration than wet weather if you want a resin driveway laid now. According to the Met Office, we have just had the hottest June on record in England and the second warmest for the UK as a whole since 1884.
If that continues, you should plan an installation that is early or late in the day, while being ready for a cancellation if rain is in the forecast.
